2 Gehrig, Lou (Iron Horse)
(1903-1941) Гериг, Лу ("Железный конь")Бейсболист. Прозвище получил за свою выносливость: за 14 сезонов не пропустил ни одной игры (2130 игр). Начинал карьеру в команде американского футбола и бейсбольной команде Колумбийского университета [ Columbia University]. С 1923 играл за команду "Нью-Йорк янки" [ New York Yankees] в качестве бейсмена [baseman]. На его счету - 493 "пробежки" [ home run]. Гериг был левша, что весьма редко в бейсболе. В 1939 был избран в Национальную бейсбольную галерею славы [ National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum]. Умер от редкой болезни - бокового амиотрофического склероза (БАС). Смерть Герига вызвала в стране общественное движение за борьбу с болезнью, иногда называемую его именем [Gehrig's Disease].
